Is it for you?

You know some JavaScript and want to ship something people carry in their pocket.

What you’ll learn

  1. Structure a mobile app with screens, navigation and shared state
  2. Keep an app usable offline and sync when the connection returns
  3. Design for small screens, touch targets and accessibility settings
  4. Test on real devices and fix platform-specific bugs
  5. Produce a signed build ready for store submission

The stack

  • React Native
  • TypeScript
  • Expo
  • Navigation
  • Local storage
  • App store builds

The project brief

Cross-platform app from a design spec

Take a written design spec for a habit-tracking app and ship it on iOS and Android from one codebase, with offline support, reminders and a production build.

What it shows
That you can turn a spec into an app that works on real devices, not only in a simulator.

Briefs are modelled on real startup problems for learning. The work is yours: it is not done for any company, and it is not paid.

How the track runs

  1. Plant roots. Create your profile, choose your track and see what it covers.
  2. Foundations. Work through your track’s learning material at your own speed.
  3. Project sprint. Join a pod of up to six and build a production-style project brief.
  4. Lead and reflect. Optionally lead a pod, support newer students, and review what you learned.
  5. Share your portfolio. Publish your shipped work and earn your certificate of completion.

Questions about this track

Do I need a Mac for the Mobile track?
No. You can build and test on Android from any computer, and Expo’s tools let you run the app on an iPhone without a Mac.
Will my app be published to the app stores?
The project ends with a store-ready build. Publishing is optional, because store developer accounts have their own fees.
