Track 01 of 06

Full-Stack Web

Learn to build a complete web application: a React front end, a Node API and a Postgres database, deployed where anyone can use it. Self-paced and free, with a peer pod and a volunteer mentor.

Is it for you?

You can write basic JavaScript and want to understand how a real web product fits together, end to end, rather than one layer at a time.

What you’ll learn

  1. Model data in Postgres and query it safely from an API
  2. Design REST endpoints with validation, errors and authentication
  3. Build a React interface that handles loading, empty and error states
  4. Review code in pull requests the way product teams do
  5. Deploy an application and keep it running

The stack

  • React
  • TypeScript
  • Node.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • REST APIs
  • Git and pull requests

The project brief

Analytics dashboard for a seed-stage startup

Build the internal dashboard a small startup would use to track sign-ups and revenue: authenticated users, a Postgres-backed API, charts, and filters that stay fast as the data grows.

What it shows
That you can take a product brief to a deployed, working application with a sensible data model.

Briefs are modelled on real startup problems for learning. The work is yours: it is not done for any company, and it is not paid.

How the track runs

  1. Plant roots. Create your profile, choose your track and see what it covers.
  2. Foundations. Work through your track’s learning material at your own speed.
  3. Project sprint. Join a pod of up to six and build a production-style project brief.
  4. Lead and reflect. Optionally lead a pod, support newer students, and review what you learned.
  5. Share your portfolio. Publish your shipped work and earn your certificate of completion.

Questions about this track

Do I need to know React before starting the Full-Stack track?
No. You need basic JavaScript. The track starts with the fundamentals and builds toward the project brief, so you can skip what you already know.
Where does the finished project get deployed?
On a hosting service with a free tier, so it stays online for your portfolio without costing you anything. Your mentor helps you choose one.
